Psycho-physiological measures on a bicycle simulator in immersive virtual environments: how protected/curbside bike lanes may improve perceived safety

چکیده

As a healthier and more sustainable way of mobility, cycling has been advocated by literature policy. However, current trends in bicyclist crash fatalities suggest deficiencies roadway design protecting these vulnerable road users. The lack data is common challenge for studying bicyclists' safety, behavior, comfort levels under different contexts. To understand behavioral physiological responses an efficient safe way, this study uses bicycle simulator within immersive virtual environment (IVE). Off-the-shelf sensors are utilized to evaluate performance (speed lane position) (eye tracking heart rate (HR)). Participants bike simulated modeled scale from real-world street with shared (sharrow) how introduction protected pylons may impact perceptions as well psycho-physiological responses. Results 50 participants show that the received highest perceived safety rating exhibited lowest average speed. Furthermore, both scenarios less dispersed gaze distribution than as-built sharrow scenario, reflecting higher focus among bicyclists on biking task scenarios, compared when share right vehicles. Additionally, change point results creating dedicated zones (bike lanes or lanes) potential reduce stress levels.

Physiological Measures of Presence in Virtual Environments

Virtual environments (VEs) are the most advanced human-computer interfaces yet developed. Researchers, by the development of new methods, theories, and technologies, have endeavored to make effective VEs. The definition of effectiveness changes based on the application of the VE. For flight simulators, training transfer is important. For architectural walkthroughs, accurate perception of space ...

Running head: HOW IMMERSIVE VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS FOSTER SRL 1 How Immersive Virtual Environments Foster Self-Regulated Learning

Over the past decade, immersive virtual environments have been increasingly used to facilitate students’ learning of complex scientific topics. The non-linearity and open-endedness of these environments create learning opportunities for students, but can also impose challenges in terms of extraneous cognitive load and greater requirements for self-regulated learning (SRL). SRL is crucial for ac...

Investigating the Effects of Embodiment on Presence in Stressful Immersive Virtual Environments using Physiological Monitoring

This paper presents an experiment using physiological monitoring of heart rate and galvanic skin response to investigate the effects of a fully tracked human avatar representation on presence in immersive virtual environments (IVEs). The experiments will compare participants’ physiological reactions in a high fidelity virtual replica of the room occupied and their reactions to a stressful model...

A Framework for Immersive Virtual Environments (FIVE): Speculations on the Role of Presence in Virtual Environments

This paper reviews the concepts of immersion and presence in virtual environments. We propose that the degree of immersion can be objectively assessed as the characteristics of a technology, and has dimensions such as the extent to which a display system can deliver an inclusive, extensive, surrounding and vivid illusion of virtual environment to a participant. Other dimensions of immersion are...

Study of Interactive Bike Simulator in Application of Virtual Reality

This paper proposes an interactive bike simulator of 2-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) mechanisms with dynamic platform driven by changing cable length and its application to virtual reality for the rider in the virtual environments. The bike motion equations and road conditions in virtual bike driving can be calculated and analyzed by using numerical methods and software of the virtual reality. We al...
